Bleacher Report names Ravens as dark-horse destination for star free agent CB

The Baltimore Ravens will have plenty of chances to improve their roster in the 2022 offseason after coming off of a disappointing 2021 year that saw them finish at 8-9 and miss the playoffs entirely. There seem to be plenty of changes on the way, and the team could look drastically different once next season begins.

When identifying dark-horse destinations for some of the top players set to hit free agency in 2022, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report chose Baltimore for current New England Patriots star cornerback J.C. Jackson. When explaining his choice, Knox talked about how the Ravens weren’t an obvious suitor for a cornerback based off of who they already have on their roster.

“The Baltimore Ravens aren’t an obvious suitor because they have two standout cornerbacks in Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey. It’s worth noting, though, that Peters (ACL) and Humphrey (pectoral) are both coming off of season-ending injuries.”

Knox also talked about how Marcus Peters could be a cap casualty due to his high 2022 cap number and cap savings if let go.

“Peters could be a potential cap casualty as well. He’s 29 years old, entering the final year of his contract and could generate $10 million in cap space if released…Replacing Peters with the 26-year-old Jackson could be a tremendous long-term move for Baltimore. Even if the Ravens keep Peters for the final year of his contract, adding Jackson could be a wise defensive decision.”

Jackson played college football at the University of Maryland for two seasons and has gone on to become one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL after going undrafted in the 2018 draft. He would instantly make Baltimore’s defense better, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Ravens make a big-time splash in their secondary, especially with the rumors connecting the team with Miami Dolphins star cornerback Xavien Howard during the 2021 trade deadline.
