Bills kicker Stephen Hauschka attempts to stop returner with slide tackle

Even though they share the same name, depending on what side of the pond you’re on, they don’t share the same rules and tactics.

Buffalo Bills kicker Stephen Hauschka tried to use some soccer (or fútbol) skills to go after New York Jets kick returner Andre Roberts during the second quarter their game at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York.

Roberts found the holes for an 86-yard kickoff return after the Bills went up, 17-6, minutes into the second quarter. He was running up the right sideline when Hauschka made his ill-attempted move that fell far short.

Roberts ran another 30-plus yards and the Jets cut into the lead with an ensuing touchdown.

Hauschka’s rough day continued to close the first half when a 49-yard field goal was blocked by the Jets’ Henry Anderson. He then threw a block that put Hauschka on the ground for a few minutes.

A group of medical staff attended to the kicker, who walked slowly off the field himself. He returned for the start of the second half and continued the game. The 11-year veteran made three of four kicks, missing a 54-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.

The Jets prevailed, 27-23.
