Aldon Smith sought by Louisiana police for battery
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Aldon Smith is now wanted by police in connection with an incident of battery that occurred Saturday, April 17 in Louisiana.
St. Bernard Parish District Attorney Perry M. Nicosia confirmed to Yahoo Sports that a warrant has been sworn out for Smith's arrest in connection with an incident at the French Press Coffee House in Chalmette, Louisiana. Smith is wanted for second degree battery.
According to parish officials, Smith does not have a local address, but does have relatives who live in the New Orleans area. As of 2:30 p.m. Eastern, neither the Seahawks or Smith's agents had connected with the district attorney's office.
Nicosia indicated that the victim in the incident was briefly rendered unconscious and spent a short time at a local hospital, but has been discharged.
Smith was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 draft, and played for the San Francisco 49ers for the first four years of his career. However, his time in San Francisco and afterward was marked by a variety of legal issues, including arrests for suspicion of DUI, that led to multiple suspensions. Following a season with the Raiders, Smith sat out the entire 2016 and 2017 seasons after failing to win reinstatement from a suspension related to a hit-and-run incident. Smith did not play in the 2018 or 2019 seasons, and returned to the Cowboys in 2020 on a one-year deal. He signed with the Seahawks just two days before the Chalmette incident occurred.
