Aaron Rodgers carries Packers past Washington Football Team for sixth consecutive win
GREEN BAY - Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers improved to 6-1 Sunday by beating the Washington Football Team 24-10 at Lambeau Field.
Rodgers (27 for 35 for 274 yards, 127.6 rating) gave the Packers an early 7-0 lead by scrambling to his right and then hitting Davante Adams over the middle for a 15-yard touchdown.
Allen Lazard dominated the Packers' final drive of the first half. Lazard had five catches for 60 yards, including a 10-yard TD catch 15 seconds before halftime to put the Packers ahead 14-7.
After Rashan Gary's strip-sack forced a fumble that was recovered by Dean Lowry on Washington's first second-half possession, Rodgers found Robert Tonyan on a 20-yard TD pass for a 21-7 lead.
Washington appeared to score on its next possession but officials ruled that quarterback Taylor Heinicke gave himself up on a third-down dive toward the end zone. Heinicke was then stopped on a fourth-down quarterback sneak.
That ended an 0-for-15 stretch by the Packers' defense of failing to prevent opponents from scoring in the red zone. The unit went on to thwart two other Washington drives in the red zone, one coming on an Adrian Amos interception in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter.
The Packers' next game is Thursday night at Arizona.
