2023 NFL draft: ESPN names Texans as team Bills could trade back with

If the Buffalo Bills were to trade back in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, keep an eye on the quarterbacks says ESPN.

The former world-wide leader made that suggestion… But no, not for themselves. Rather, for the Houston Texans.

Entering the draft, the Bills hold the No. 27 selection in Round 1. The Texans have multiple first-round picks ahead of Buffalo, as Houston is slated to be on the clock second and at No. 12.

But that does not mean Houston is required to take a QB with either of those, and if they don’t, you guessed it, that’s where the Bills come into play.

ESPN named Buffalo as a potential trade partner for Houston if they opt for other positions with their top picks. Specifically, it’s projected that Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker is the quarterback the Texans might target at No. 27.

Regarding the Houston side of this potential scenario, ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller explains the Texans could send three picks to Buffalo to make the deal happen. The Texans deal a second-rounder (No. 33), third-rounder (No. 104) and a 2024 second-rounder to the Bills to jump back into Round 1.

Entering the draft, the Bills only hold six total selections. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane wouldn’t mind bringing in more.

Then there’s the Texans, who hold the most draft capital in the entire NFL. Such a team can definitely consider making a move up the board.

All in all, keep a Houston-Buffalo deal in mind… depending on how the Texans’ first selections go.

Miller’s breakdown on the Bills’ side of a potential trade can be found below:

Miller: Trading back makes sense for the Bills on the other side of this deal. Buffalo has six picks in this draft, so general manager Brandon Beane would love more capital. The Bills have needs at linebacker, wide receiver, cornerback and interior offensive line, and they could address some of those spots with the additional picks.
