These Apartment Buildings Will Be Enveloped In Living Forests
These apartment buildings aim to bring new meaning to the phrase “concrete jungle.”
Vietnamese firm Vo Trong Nghia Architects has proposed a trio of 22-story apartment buildings, dubbed “Diamond Lotus,” to be built near downtown Ho Chi Minh City with a forest’s worth of trees, bamboo and other vegetation growing from their roofs and balconies.
Not only would the plants bring an eye-catching splash of green to the city’s landscape, they would also act as a “green screen” for the apartment-dwellers, helping to purify the city’s sometimes smog-filled air and provide shade to cool the buildings in sweltering tropical heat, according to the architects.
The connected roofs of the three towers, called a “sky park” by the designers, will offer more green space with fully-grown trees and landscaped areas for the development’s 720 families to enjoy.
“Within the urban density of small and humble houses without greenery, this project will provide the first green landmark in Ho Chi Minh City to change the inactive mindset created by lack of greenery,” the architects wrote in a statement.
Vo Trong Nghia is well-known for incorporating trees, bushes and other foliage into their designs – the proposed FTP university building and the finished Naman Retreat resort, for example – but the proposed Diamond Lotus development is one of its largest.
