Location: Miami, Fla.
The Skinny: There are plenty of Mediterranean-style estates in the Miami area. They seem to litter the pricey waterfront in this sun-kissed corner of Florida, but few bother to introduce a modern sensibility. This property, on Brickell Avenue near the Key Biscayne causeway, has a main house done in a streamlined version of that Med standard and an austere guest house topped by a towering open-air loggia. Behind the guest house lies a tennis court, but the waterfront is the dominant feature here. An elaborate square swimming pool creates an island of grass dotted with lanterns and lounge chairs, all facing the bay. The downside to this place might be that it abuts a public park, but at least that means neighbors aren't peeping in at all hours. The interiors, thankfully, are luxurious but simple, with none of the over-the-top detailing usually found in $19M Miami properties.
