UPDATE: Gorgeous Charlton Heston Time Capsule Home Goes for ...
UPDATE, Jan. 26, 2016: The Beverly Hills home that Charlton Heston commissioned for his family in 1959 has sold for just a smidge under its asking price, property records now confirm (as does the Los Angeles Times). It went for $12,212,000 and had been listed at $12,249,000. We have a call in with the buyer’s agent to see if we can find out who the buyer is – or at least learn the buyer’s plans for the home – and we’ll update this post when we hear back. But we’re fervently hoping this isn’t a teardown or big remodel; we think it’d be a shame to lose all that midcentury character!
ORIGINAL POST, Dec. 8, 2015: We can’t say we’re entirely surprised: Actor Charlton Heston’s incredible time capsule home, which we wrote about when it hit the market just last month, already has an offer pending.
As you may recall, this is the first time the home has ever been for sale. It was built for Heston and his family in 1959. The family was asking $12,249,000 — which seemed possibly a bit pricey for its location in Los Angeles’s Coldwater Canyon, considering that Zillow estimated its worth at about $9 million.
But now that’s not looking too steep at all. The three-acre estate left the market just three weeks after it was offered for sale, which strongly suggests there might have been a bidding war.
We’ll update this post when we know more about the sale and how much the property sold for. And, for the record, we will be heartbroken if this turns out to be yet another L.A. teardown.
