Will Katy Perry provide the soundtrack to Hillary Clinton’s campaign?

Hillary Clinton is officially running for president, but one question still weighs heavily on everyone’s mind: Did she ever take Katy Perry up on that offer to write her campaign theme song?

Back in June, the pop star tweeted (and posted on Instagram) a photo of herself grinning alongside Clinton at the former secretary of state’s book signing.

“I told hillaryclinton that I would write her a “theme” song if she needs it…” Perry wrote. Clinton — or whoever manages her Twitter account — responded, “Well that’s not a Hard Choice. You already did! Keep letting us hear you Roar.”

The reference was to Perry’s anthemic song “Roar,” which the Ready for Hillary super PAC had used in a video last March.

Since then, Clinton has made an entrance to Perry’s pop songs on more than one occasion. “Roar” played again as she stumped for Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky back in November.  And at last month’s 30th anniversary gala for the pro-choice political action committee EMILY’s List, Clinton — the keynote speaker — took the stage to Perry’s song “Unconditionally.”

Choosing a campaign song is something of a tradition among presidential candidates, and Clinton is no exception. After throwing her hat in the ring in 2007, Clinton solicited help from her supporters in selecting a theme song, asking them to vote online. Céline Dion’s “You and I” was the winner.

Still, while any one of Perry’s rousing ballads would seem well-suited to accompany Clinton on the campaign trail this time around, the presidential hopeful has yet to announce a theme song for her 4-day-old candidacy. Additionally, Yahoo News was unable to get ahold of a spokesperson who could confirm whether, between performing at the Super Bowl and going on a world tour, the singer has also been at work composing the soundtrack to Hillary for America.

Clinton should have no shortage of campaign music to choose from, as singers like Carole King and Ariana Grande were among the many celebrities to tweet their endorsements after Sunday’s announcement. And, if nothing else, Paul McClure, the enthusiastic singer/supporter behind the 2008 semi-viral hit “Hillary in the House,” (see below) has already made clear that he’s ready for 2016.
