Running Havana’s Marabana

This slideshow is part of a weeklong Yahoo series marking one year since the opening up of relations between the United States and Cuba.

Runners go where the races are, and now that Americans have new access to visit Cuba, more runners from the U.S. than ever before traveled there to participate in the Nov. 15 Marabana in Havana, among them Yahoo News editor Lauren Johnston. More than 3,600 runners from 64 countries turned out on race day to run either the 10K, half-marathon or the full 26.2-mile course. About 380 runners braved the full distance in 80-degree heat, including Johnston, who snapped these photos along the way.
