When Dana Perino became President George W. Bush’s last press secretary, a friend told her to make sure to put on her “big-girl panties” and brace for the challenge of a lifetime. Perino lays out her winding road to become the White House’s chief spokesperson in a new book, “And the Good News Is,” that explores her political coming of age, inside-the-Beltway machinations and what it’s like waging daily battles with reporters, whom she sometimes secretly flipped off from behind the podium.
