Ben Carson talks up threat of terrorism, Internet comments

Ben Carson, self-proclaimed sleepy neurosurgeon and Republican candidate for president, is having a fun debate night. Alongside a few lighthearted jokes, he has expressed both a fear of a massive, national cyber-and-electromagnetic-pulse attack and horror at the nastiness of online comments. When asked about his views on Bill Clinton, Carson went off on a tangent and expressed a view that many share:

“You know, you go to the Internet, you start reading an article, and you go to the comment section, you cannot go five comments down before people are calling each other all manner of names. Where did that spirit come from in America? It did not come from our Judeo-Christian roots. I can tell you that. And wherever it came from, we need to start once again, recognizing that there is such a thing as right and wrong.”

Yep, it’s scary out there on the World Wide Web. But don’t you know the No. 1 rule on the Internet? Never read the comments!
