Who Spends the Most Time on Facebook

If it seems like your Facebook feed is flooded with photos of kids posted by your friends who are moms and dads, you’re right.

Facebook IQ, the social media company’s research arm, along with Ipsos MediaCT and Sound Research, conducted a study of parents around the world between the ages of 25 and 65 with infants, toddlers, adolescents, and teens to gain insight on their mobile habits. The researchers also analyzed data from Facebook and Instagram in eight countries — the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, and Spain — and collected feedback from 8,300 parents.

The report revealed what anyone who checks Facebook on a regular basis already knows: that “parenting has become a digitally shared experience,” with moms and dads globally posting more photos, videos, and status updates than nonparents. In fact, the research found that proud new parents across the globe post 2.3 times more photos, 2.9 times more videos, and 1.8 times more status updates than average users.

Even though some parents may worry about turning off their friends by posting too many baby pictures, that doesn’t necessarily happen: The research shows that new parents’ posts about their babies receive 37 percent more interactions from relatives and 47 percent more from friends.

New parents are also more likely to hop on Facebook in the early morning hours — likely when they have a spare moment — starting as early as 4 a.m. and peaking at 7 a.m. The research showed that by 7 a.m., 56 percent of new parents have checked Facebook on their mobile device.
