Student Punks Family With Hilarious Christmas Card

College Junior Joshua Brassow has already given his family a gift this holiday — the gift of laughter.

The Michigan student, at Saginaw Valley State University, 25, hired a fake family and created a joke Christmas card to “baffle my aunts, uncles, and especially my grandparents,” he wrote on Facebook. And he’s done exactly that, cracking up all who see the image of him — that’s gone viral with more than 1.4 million views on Imgur — posing as a newly married man and stepfather in his card reading: “Seasons Greetings from the Brassows. Josh & Patty ‘Bone-Crusher’ Johnson, and the boys Blade & Thor.”

“My family’s pretty socially conservative so I knew that they would look at that and wonder what I’d got myself into,” Brassow told NBC 25. With six siblings and parents from large families as well, the prankster said he has relatives he hasn’t visited in a while, giving him a unique opportunity. “Some of them I haven’t seen in five, 10 years,” he told BuzzFeed, adding that he wanted the card to look plausible enough to his extended family so that they would believe he “got this woman almost twice my age pregnant, and I have to step up and raise these kids.”

Brassow found his faux wife, and her real kids, via Facebook, where he posted an ad last month describing himself as a “pretty chill dude trying to pull a prank” and offered $20 for someone willing to pose with her children for an “awkward photo” with “lots of turtle necks and ugly clothes.” The model was game to participate for free and Brassow has sworn of the grimacing woman covered in tattoos, “She’s not as scary as she is in the picture. We had to try really hard to make her look rough.”

The effort has paid off in spades. “Wanted to do this for years,” Brassow tweeted Dec. 4. “Finally took the initiative to give the world the Christmas card it deserves…”

And yes, his real family appreciates the prank. “[My dad] started laughing so hard his face turned red,” Brassow said. “He had tears in his eyes.”
