Overprotective Mom’s Hilarious Notes for Son

Moms are all about giving their children direction — and apparently that doesn’t change after their kids become adults.

Witness the crazy-obsessive directives one British mother left her 27-year-old son, who agreed to housesit for her while she went on vacation to Turkey for two weeks this month.

“Top floor toilet. Don’t do a number 2 as it doesn’t flush well,” instructs one embarrassingly specific note from mom Figen Murray to her son, Martyn Hett. “Also don’t lock that door you may never escape!!!!”

That missive is only the tip of the iceberg. “Balcony door in your bedroom. Be careful with the cat!” reads another. And then there’s this one: “Help yourself to food. Wine okay but please stay away from whiskey.”

Hett found his mom’s trail of notes so hilarious, he posted them on Facebook on August 18. The notes, written in heavy blue marker, have been a hit, racking up dozens of comments from similarly bemused friends.

For his part, Hett concedes that his mom may not have much reason to trust him with her home, considering all the parties he threw as a teenager when she would go on vacation.

“I’d ignore the notes when I was younger but I generally obey them these days,” Hett told the Daily Mail. “The strangest thing is the way she’ll stick a Post-It to an object and then write the message as though it’s from the object itself.”

Murray also left a note ordering her son to keep in contact while she was away via social media — that should be whatsapp, not “what’s up.” (Photo: Martyn Hett/Facebook)

“On the shower door it’ll read, ‘Please don’t use me, use my much better buddy downstairs’ or something. It’s just my mum all over.”

As for the warning about the balcony and the cat, Hett says it’s probably because his mother knows he thinks the cat is evil. Hmm, maybe mom knows what she’s doing with her super-specific warnings.

They don’t seem to rankle Hett, who comes off as more amused than annoyed by them. “Who knew house sitting could be so complicated?” he cheekily wrote under one photo on Facebook. “Thanks for the notes mum.”
