“This was a terrible accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family,” Hunter Robinson, Manager, Media Relations & Communications of Olive Garden, tells Yahoo Parenting.

The boy, who has not yet been identified because he’s a minor, was dining with his family at the East Brunswick, New Jersey location on Dec. 20.

“We have reached out to the family to express our deepest concern for his injuries and we will work with the family to cover medical costs,” says Robinson. “All of us at Olive Garden wish nothing but the best for him in his recovery. In addition, we have launched an internal review of this matter.”

Police from the East Brunswick Rescue squad and paramedics from the nearby Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital were called to the eatery known for its all-you-can-breadsticks around 5 p.m., NJ.com reports.  A police representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Yahoo Parenting.

When emergency personnel determined the injuries sustained were severe, the East Brunswick Fire Department prepared a landing zone at the Middlesex County Vocational School, just five minutes from Olive Garden, so a Medivac Helicopter could transport the boy to St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston from East Brunswick— about an hour drive from the restaurant.

“The boy was subsequently transported by helicopter to St. Barnabas for treatment,” police said in a statement released via Nixle alert.

There is no word on the boy’s condition at this time.
