Children and fashion don’t usually mix, but Dolce & Gabbana’s Sunday ready-to wear show, “Viva la Mama,” was inspired by motherhood. The show, held in Milan, featured 11 multitasking models showing off the brand’s autumn/winter 2016 collection while lugging their adorable babies down the runway (without a diaper bag in sight), wearing mama-themed outfits including dresses imprinted with images of the Madonna and Child, and in one case, walking the runway while very pregnant.

“The designer’s observation of real mothers from all over the world gave them a new perspective on femininity,” noted a company press release.

Women also wore tops that read “Mama” while walking to the Spice Girls’ song of the same name, according to New York magazine. Other clothing boasted prints of doodles by Domenico Dolce’s own nieces and nephews. Backstage, the walls were adorned with photos of famous mother-daughter duos such as Angelina Jolie with son Maddox, and Jackie Kennedy with daughter Caroline.

And swollen ankles, be damned: Italian model and mother-of-one Bianca Balti, 31, is six months pregnant with her second child, but she still rocked a pastel pink, knee-length dress with three-quarter sleeves and black strappy heels.

Ashleigh Good, 22, and her five-month-old daughter Emily also made an appearance on the runway — mom in a white skirt with floral pattern and a black top; Emily in a light pink dress. “I almost cried when they asked me [to walk with Emily] because it’s so special,” Good told Style.com. “We had a nice connection backstage [with the other moms], so it was really great. The three babies were all similar in age — 4, 5, and six months, so it was fun to be with other moms who are doing the same thing. It’s nice to see that it can be done and I’m not the only crazy one!”

The mothers held their children for the duration of the show, which included 89 looks, according to Fashionista. That’s pretty impressive, in light of recent reports that toddlers North West (daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West) and Harper Beckham (daughter of David and Victoria Beckham) had meltdowns at their parent’s respective fashion shows, sparking conversation about whether or not it’s appropriate to allow children to attend such events.

We’re guessing all the tiny models ended their evening with well-deserved naps.
