Woman’s ‘Leggings Aren’t Pants’ Speech Goes Viral

Jamie Higdon Randolph loves her leggings. “They are comfortable. They don’t cut into you, they’re always the right length. … You can dress them up, you can dress them down,” the Tennessee woman says. What she doesn’t love is how some people are wearing them.

“Some of you people like to use leggins as britches, as pants,” she rants in a Facebook video that’s been viewed more than 13 million times since she posted it earlier this month, per Fox 8. “That’s not how they’re supposed to be worn,” Randolph says. “If you can’t wear a shirt that covers your tail so that I can’t tell that you got some Aztec-print thongs on, you don’t need to be wearing ‘em.”

But she doesn’t stop there: “If they’re too tight that I can see that you have a tattoo on your leg, they’re too tight. They ain’t to be worn, period. That’s called pantyhose, honey. Panty. Hose,” Randolph adds, noting white leggings are a definite no-no.

Comments have been generally positive. “Omg! I say this all the time! Thank you!” says one user, while another notes Randolph is “so completely awesome and correct.” Randolph also has a pretty big name in fashion to back her up. Project Runway’s Tim Gunn told Bloomberg earlier this month that wearing leggings as pants is pretty much like wearing only your skivvies. “It’s vulgar,” he said. “Unless you’re Robin Hood.” (This high school banned leggings.)
