An 11-year-old girl has only one wish for Santa this year: that her sick mom feel better soon.

Bobbie-Mae Chalk, a young girl in Southampton, England, wrote her traditional letter to Santa last week and gave it to her mother to ensure safe delivery. But her mom, Debby Chalk, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, was so touched by what she found in the note that she shared it on Facebook before sending it off to the North Pole. “Dear Santa, Please, if you can, make my mum’s life better. Make her not feel ill all the time,” the note said. “I would really appreciate it. Just PLEASE!! Make her life more and more better. It [hurts] to [watch] her suffer, so please make it better. If I had one wish in the whole world it would be to help.” The letter, which Debby shared on the Crohn’s and Colitis UK Facebook page on Friday, has gotten more than 7,400 likes.

Debby was diagnosed with Crohn’s, a form of inflammatory bowel disease, in 2006, she told Metro News. “[I] have been having a lot of issues for the past two years with medications and keeping it under control,” she said. Still, Debby wrote in the caption to the Facebook photo that she didn’t realize how much her illness was affecting her daughter. “I was a little bit surprised as I always feel like I put on a brave face and hide my illness well but clearly nothing gets past her,” she said.

Commenting on the Crohn’s and Colitis UK Facebook page, users have been impressed with Bobbie-Mae’s maturity and kindness. “What a lovely daughter. They call it an invisible illness but our nearest and dearest see it in all its terrible glory no matter how hard we try to hide it,” wrote one commenter. “What a beautiful daughter you have. That brought tears to my eyes. Hope you have a [fabulous] Christmas. … We all like to think we hide the illness well, but this proves kids aren’t silly,” added another.

After seeing the letter, Debby told Metro News she was extremely emotional. “I welled up and couldn’t believe it,” she said. “Makes me so proud to be her mum.”
