High School Moms Dance Their Booties Off in Surprise Pep Rally Performance
A group of moms gave their football player sons a big surprise at a school’s recent pep rally when they broke into a dance performance, busting out moves like the Nae Nae and the Quan.
The football team at Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas, is headed into the playoffs, so the school held the pep rally on Friday to get students excited about the team’s success. But it wasn’t just fellow students who decided to show their support for the football players. A group of 11 moms put on a hip-hop dance performance in front of the entire school, initially unbeknownst to their sons. “The boys are doing really well this year and we wanted to do something to show our support for them,” April Williams, the mom who organized the dance squad, told My San Antonio.

The routine, which was choreographed by a Steel High School student, starts with the moms entering the gym in a single-file line, wearing masks. And when the moms rip off their masks moments into the dance, the student body erupts into applause. The three-minute performance includes popular dance moves like the Nae Nae from Silentó’s summer hit “Watch Me” and the Quan from the iHeart Memphis song “Hit the Quan.”

The moms are the first to admit that hip-hop performances aren’t usually in their wheelhouse. “My legs were shaky and it felt like my knees were going to buckle. It was cool to come out of our comfort zone,” mom Melissa Fields told My San Antonio. “If I went to a club right now, I wouldn’t know what to do. I went on YouTube and thought ‘Oh no, there is no way we would be able to pull this off.’”

Fields said she expected that her son, defensive back Isaiah Fields, might be embarrassed about seeing his mom on the dance floor. “I think my son’s first reaction was ‘You’ve gotta be kidding me — dad, why did you let mom sign up for this?’” she said. But My San Antonio reports that once the performance ended, the proud football players embraced their mothers. And by the sound of the crowd throughout the performance, it’s safe to say the ladies were the hit of the rally.
Still, Fields says she and her fellow football moms aren’t looking for attention. “We don’t want to lose sight of why we did this,” she says. “It’s not about us — it’s about our sons.”
