Ferguson Library 'Overwhelmed' With Donations

Never underestimate the healing power of books!

After Ferguson, Missouri-area schools closed this week following a grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer in the fatal shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown, the town’s public library has emerged as a sanctuary for residents.

In anticipation of Tuesday’s grand jury decision, the library posted a message on Facebook saying they would stay open as long as it is safe for patrons and staff.

“We will do everything in our power to serve our community. Stay strong and love each other,” the message concluded.

STORY: Anonymous Teen Uses Twitter for Good

Their inspiring words were passed around on social media almost immediately. Once Tuesday night’s decision was announced, Twitter lit up with calls for everyone to donate to the library. As of Wednesday at 12:00PM ET, they’ve received more than 3,000 donations.
