Dad’s Hilarious Letter to Child Who Asks for Money

After his 6-year-old son asked him for money, one dad decided to get creative with his response. Reddit user sonan303 drafted a formal and hilarious letter to his son, even going as far as creating his own legitimate-looking letterhead that says, “Dad Savings & Loan.” Underneath the logo it reads: “Because, apparently I look like I’m made of money.”

In the letter, the St. Louis dad writes: “We regret to inform you at this time that we are unable to provide a loan in the amount requested of $20.00. After reviewing your account, we find you have insufficient funds, and a history of not doing your chores.” The letter also lists a phone number for the complaint department (blocked for privacy), which the dad notes on Reddit is the mom’s number. The dad adds that the dispute manager at the complaint department (aka Mom) may be able to “persuade” Dad Savings & Loan to reverse its decision.

The letter, posted on January 14, has gone viral, garnering more than 4.1 million views on Reddit and more than 780 comments praising the dad’s sense of humor and the “on-point” letterhead. Reddit user Helltonic wrote: “Best ‘ask your mother’ ever,” while Jeremiahthefrog commented that “THIS is the kind of dad I want to be.”

No word on whether the boy filed an appeal with the complaint department.
