A sweet 6-year-old named Maisie got quite the surprise after meeting Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday: A saluting solider accidentally whacked the cutie, knocking the hat right off her head.

The blonde tot had been selected to attend the Colours Parade for the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff, Wales. She wore a traditional red-and-white Welsh dress and presented a bouquet of flowers to the queen, reported Wales Online journalist Ruth Mosalski, who caught the accident on film and posted it on Twitter.

Maisie curtsied and handed flowers to the queen, who told the girl she was “very pretty” and “God bless.” As the 89-year-old began to walk away, the lance corporal standing next to Maisie broke into an overzealous salut, knocking the girl in the face.

The crowd gasped but the queen didn’t appear to notice and continued on. However, the soldier quickly apologized to Maisie and her mother Joanne Gregory.

Thankfully, Maisie seemed fine — Gregory reassured the soldier that her daughter was more tired than anything else, having been awake since 4:45 that morning. And by that point, the girl was likely itching to change her outfit – her mom told the newspaper that it took “convincing” to get Maisie into a dress that day.
