'Kate Middleton' and 'shorts' aren't words you'd expect to see together - with the strict royal dress codes and all - but this weekend, that's exactly what the Duchess wore. Yesterday, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the 1851 Trust and the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix (Sail GP) Team in Plymouth, sporting a nautical-themed striped navy jumper, teamed with Superga trainers and a pair of white linen shorts. Safe to say, it's an unexpected, but gloriously chic, summer look from Kate and we're so here for it.

For context, Kate is royal patron of the 1851 Trust which, "aims to inspire and engage the next generation through sailing and the marine industry to become innovators of the future and stewards of the marine environment." As part of her visit, the Duchess met with young people involved in the trust's activities, which included making seagrass mats, to be planted off Plymouth Sound, to help promote sustainability, per People.

Kate went on to swap out of her casual shorts look and into the official GBR wetsuit to take part in a friendly Commonwealth race between Great Britain and New Zealand.

Yep, she's not afraid to get involved, joining Sir Ben Ainslie (AKA the most successful sailor in Olympic history), along with the rest of the GBR crew.

The Duchess definitely looks the part, huh? We love that she seems just as comfortable wearing fancy ballgowns as she is in trainers and a wetsuit.
