Zoar Memorial Amateur Championship underway

The first round of the annual Zoar Memorial Amateur Championship was played Saturday afternoon at Zoar Golf Club.

Finally good golf weather greeted the full field of some of the best amateurs in the region.

In the Open Division, Vaughn Snyder from Massillon and Connor Curry of Mt Vernon share the lead at the halfway point. Each fired a stellar four under par 68.

Tim Hepner (Dover, 69), Mitch Levengood (New Phila), 71) and Andrew Simpson (Columbus, 71) finished their first round in the hunt and under par.

The Senior Division featured past champion Rob Schustrich from Windham at two under par 70. Former professional soccer player Zoran Karic of Cleveland was next at 73.

This year the Zoar Memorial honored Dr. Barb Easlick a longtime golf instructor at Zoar GC, and remembered the life of Max McConnell, a Coshocton County legend.

The final round is scheduled for Sunday at noon. Zoar Golf Club is at 8229 Dover Zoar Rd.

The public is invited.
