Yellowjackets spoilers follow.

Yellowjackets is Sky Atlantic's newest drama, chronicling a team of high school soccer players who crash land in the wilderness and have to survive for a year and a half, looking at them during both that time and the current day, 25 years on.

The show features an ensemble cast, all of whom have a lot of importance to the plot across the season. But one of them was originally planned to be killed off in the first episode. Spoilers ahead, because the character dies later on near the end of the season.

Speaking to Collider, actress Melanie Lynskey talked about the strength of the cast when she made the revelation about the show bosses' original plans.

"Jane [Widdop], who plays, played Laura Lee, they were supposed to have one line in the pilot and then they were so good — or like two lines or something," she said.

"It was a little part — and then, I don't know if this is public knowledge, but they were not supposed to make it past the plane crash and were so impressive in the table read and in the pilot that then they were brought along."

She added: "That character became indispensable. But that's just testament to how strong every single one of those actors are. They're all so good. Every time it switches to a scene I was like, 'Oh, a Coach Ben scene. Oh, I'm excited! Oh, a Misty scene. Oh, I'm excited! Oh, an Akilah scene.'

"Every single one of them I'm excited to watch. There's never a character where I'm like, 'Alright.' They're all so good."

The show, and more importantly, the iconic Christina Ricci, has been renewed for season 2. You can find out how season 1 sets up its follow-up right here, and our always-updating collection of casting and plot news right here.
