Yankton tops Mitchell 15/16s in shootout

Jun. 16—A seven-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as Yankton took down the Mitchell 15/16s 16-9 on Wednesday.

Mitchell jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning following RBI singles by Carter Miller and Connor Singray and an RBI double by Karter Sibson, but the Bucks gradually climbed back until exploding for seven runs on two hits, two walks and four errors in the fourth.

Sibson went 3-for-4 for Mitchell (7-7), while Singray had a pair of RBIs. Blake Brosz went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Peyton Mandel went 2-for-5. Miller, Bennett and Hudson Haley combined to allow five earned runs on nine hits and eight walks, while striking out six.

Logan Kampshoff went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Yankton, while Cooper Grotenhuis had five RBIs and Jacob Larsen had three. Michael Mors drove in three runs. Larsen scattered six earned runs on six hits and six walks over four innings.

Mitchell hosts Huron in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Monday.
