Yahoo readers weigh in on Oscar snubs and surprises

Hollywood has always had a flair for drama and an affinity for plot twists and turns — and Monday’s announcement of the 2020 Academy Awards nominations was no exception.

Though there were few who said they were surprised by those who snagged a nomination, there were many who took issue with those who didn’t.

Among those who won’t have a chance at the iconic golden statue are Lupita Nyong’o for her role in Us, Eddie Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name, Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems, and Jennifer Lopez for Hustlers.

A Yahoo reader poll revealed that Sandler’s omission from the Best Actor category was the “most egregious,” followed Lupita Nyong’o and Greta Gerwig for her direction of Little Women.

Other controversies clouded the announcement, including the complete shut out of female directors in the Best Director category, which presenter Issa Rae called out live on-air.

Yahoo readers also weighed in, with one saying they didn’t care at all that all the nominees for Best Director were male:
