X marks the spot: Texas WR Xavier Worthy scores on the first play of the game against Oklahoma

What a way to start the game.

Texas chose to receive the ball first and the rest was history. On the opening play of the Red River Showdown, true freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy showcased his speed on a 75-yard touchdown reception.

First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian notably mentioned the lack of speed on the roster after he took over for Tom Herman. Shortly after Worthy requested a release from his letter of intent with Michigan, Sarkisian made a move that has paid dividends for the Texas football program.

He was able to bring the four-star recruit to Austin and it is no doubt the biggest recruiting win that Sarkisian has made throughout his short tenure with the Longhorns.

Minutes after Worthy put the momentum on Texas’ side, the Longhorns blocked a punt and set themselves up for a Bijan Robinson touchdown. In true Red River Shootout fashion, Oklahoma was able to respond the following drive.

Texas is currently up on Oklahoma 14-7 with nine minutes to play in the first quarter.
