WT BRIEFS: Softball ranked No. 4 in NFCA poll, basketball announces schedule changes

Returning as the NCAA DII national champions, the Lady Buffs softball team learned Tuesday that it will start the season as the No. 4-ranked team in the NFCA Preseason Poll.

UT Tyler, The defending Lone Star Conference regular-season champs, was selected atop the national standings after completing the season 33-7, receiving eight of the 16 possible first-place votes.

WT went 43-12 en route to defeating Biola 4-1 in the national championship game. Biola was ranked as the No. 3 team while Augustana was ranked No. 2.

WT opens the 2022 season at the Gulf Shores Tournament in Alabama hosted by the University of Mobile on Feb. 4-6. The Lady Buffs will face West Florida in the season opener at 3:15 p.m. at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex.

CANYON — The West Texas A&M men's and women's basketball teams announced changes to their schedules.

WT will face St. Edward's on the road Jan. 31, with the Lady Buffs' tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. and Buffs' tipoff set for 3 p.m. at the Recreation and Athletics Center in Austin.

On Feb. 1, men's basketball will play at 2 p.m. against St. Mary's at the Bill Greehey Arena.

The Buffs non-conference game at Cameron, originally scheduled for Feb. 3, has been moved to 4 p.m. Feb. 5.

Women's basketball will make up their postponed game at St. Mary's at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Bill Greehey Arena

Schedule Changes

Jan. 31 – Women's basketball at St. Edward's – 1 p.m.; Men's basketball at St. Edward's – 3 p.m.

Feb. 1 – Men's basketball at St. Mary's – 2 p.m.

Feb. 5 – Men's basketball at Cameron – 4 p.m.

Feb. 21 – Women's basketball at St. Mary's — 3:30 p.m.
