When and where to get a second COVID booster

Dear Write to Know: My husband and I are senior citizens and have been fully vaccinated. We very much want to get our second booster. When is the best time to get one? We had our first booster in mid-December. Thanks for your help.

K.P., South Dennis

Dear K.P.: According to www.mass.gov., anyone age 50 and over may get a second booster at least four months after their first booster. Also, anyone age 12 and over with certain medical conditions is eligible for a second booster at least four months after their first booster. Three COVID-19 vaccines are authorized or approved for use in the U.S. You can mix and match vaccines, so your booster doesn’t need to be the same vaccine brand as your original COVID-19 vaccine. Visit the VAXFinder tool at www.vaxfinder.mass.gov. for places to get your second booster. You can also contact your primary care provider for more information. Good luck!

Pres. Biden will send a birthday card to those 80 and older

Dear Write to Know: Last year you published instructions for how to order birthday greetings for someone turning 80 years old. Can you reprint this? I have a dear friend who is turning her milestone birthday this fall and I would love to surprise her. Any help would be appreciated.

A.S., Centerville

Dear A.S.: President Biden will send any US citizen who is 80 or older a birthday card to help celebrate. If they're a military veteran, they're eligible at 70. The White House requests at least six weeks’ notice, but it is currently taking "several months" to send the cards out, so the earlier you get your request in, the better chance you have of it arriving in time for the big event. Be sure to include the following details in your request: the name and home address of birthday celebrant, title or form of address (Mr., Mrs., Miss, etc.), exact date of occasion, including the month, day and year, age, veteran status (if applicable), requestor's name and phone number if you're requesting this for another person, and any specific mailing instructions if other than to the celebrant's address. There are three ways to request a White House greeting card: You can contact the White House directly at https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/, by mail (at least six weeks early) to The White House, Attn: Greetings Office, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20500 or through your local congressman or senator. To check on the status of your request, call the official White House comment phone line at 202-456-1111.
