Wreaths Across America seeking volunteers to assist with annual ceremony

Dec. 8—A nonprofit is seeking volunteers to help unload wreaths and prepare for its annual wreath laying ceremony.

Wreaths Across America is looking for volunteers to assist at 9 a.m. Thursday to help unload wreaths at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St.; noon Friday, Dec. 17, to help mark graves at Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Ave.; 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, and to help unload wreaths at the mortuary. Assistance also is needed during the ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at the cemetery.

In a Wreaths Across America news release, officials with the nonprofit said the volunteers will be need for roughly one to two hours per slot. Those interested in volunteering do not need to sign up in advance and should just show up, if they're interested.

Those who want to help unload are asked to bring a pair of gloves and a pocket knife or scissors. Volunteers are asked to park along the street, not in the Howe Mortuary parking lot, because that's where the unloading will occur.

Wreaths Across America hosts a yearly ceremony to honor deceased veterans buried at Mountain View Cemetery. Each veteran's grave is commemorated with a wreath. To learn more about the nonprofit, people can visit: wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/142558.
