Wreath retirement postponed to February

Jan. 27—The wreath cleanup event at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont has been rescheduled to Feb. 26 due to wreaths being covered in snow and frozen to the ground.

Originally set for Sunday, the event invites volunteers to collect wreaths distributed across veterans' graves in December as part of Wreaths Across America.

Participants will meet at 11 a.m. on Feb. 26 in front of the Civil War veterans monument in the middle of the cemetery, located at 620 11th Ave. Volunteers are asked to bring scissors or a pocketknife and gloves. Wagons or broomsticks are also recommended for collecting multiple wreaths at once.

The location plans to give its more than 1,500 wreaths to local farms to be used as snacks or bedding for animals. Volunteers with pickup trucks will be needed to deliver the wreaths to the farms.
