The World's First Fully ADA-Compliant Boutique Hotel Opens in West Virginia

West Virginia is now home to the world's first fully accessible boutique hotel.
The Schoolhouse Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, the world's first hotel to fully comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, celebrated its grand opening this week.
The Schoolhouse Hotel was built in 1912 as the White Sulphur District High School. The building housed various schools until 2019, when it was purchased by The Disability Opportunity Fund and converted into The Schoolhouse Hotel.

"Every single room is completely accessible, and every public space is completely accessible," Genny Freiman, a project manager for the Disability Opportunity Fund, told Charleston Gazette-Mail. "So, we're trying to change the thought behind disabilities, as well as showing hotels that this is a way to make a hotel."
The historic building underwent a top-to-bottom renovation to include fully accessible rooms and dining areas, while paying homage to its schoolhouse past. Artifacts like the original bell are featured throughout the hotel and each of the 30 rooms is based on a school subject.
Located less than a mile away from The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs' newest hotel also boasts a business center and rooftop bar and can serve as a wedding venue and conference center.
