Workers ready Yuengling Bicentennial Park in Pottsville for Winter Wonderland

Nov. 30—POTTSVILLE — The public is invited to the upcoming fourth Winter Wonderland at Yuengling Bicentennial Park.

The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 at the park along Mahantongo Street between 10th and 11th streets,

"It's a feel-good event everybody should experience for the holidays," Thomas A. Palamar, city administrator, said Tuesday.

Admission is free to the Winter Wonderland, which will feature a multitude of decorations, including about 60,000 LED lights, an illuminated manger scene and wooden reindeer.

Garland and lights will also adorn the fence at the entrance to the park.

"We use warm white lights because its a more classy kind of lighting," said Dave Clark, city parks foreman. "When it's decorated for Christmas, it's beautiful."

This year there are about 10,000 more lights than in 2021, Clark said. Also new this year is a lighted 10-foot metal archway that visitors can stand under and view the water in the spring house at the park. The arch will be installed Thursday.

Mayor Dave Clews called the park a "treasure" that people should enjoy, especially during the holiday season.

Santa Claus will make an appearance from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 and 18 for photos, which cost $6 each. Carriage rides will be available for $6 per person.

The event also features live reindeer.

"It's not Rudolph; it's Dasher and Dancer," Palamar said.

On both days, the Majestic Singers will serande audiences from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m., and the Crimson Academy Dancers will perform from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

The Schuylkill Choral Society will also sing from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. Dec. 11.

Hot chocolate, cookies and other treats will be available to buy.

The events are sponsered by Lasting Legacy for Pottsville.

Schedule changes prompted by inclement weather, such as rain, will be announced, Clark said.
