WOODWORKER

Mar. 2—LAURINBURG — A local entrepreneur and self-proclaimed family man, Jay Jacobs is paving his way into the woodworking world and offering hand-crafted, functioning pieces of art.

"I first got started working with wood when I bought my farmhouse and had to remodel it all on my own," said Jacobs. "I decided to start doing this as a business because I received so much positive feedback on the things I was making for my home."

Jacobs does not have a set inventory but is enthusiastic and willing to create whatever someone is looking for.

"If someone wants something special made, they usually give me a general idea and let me design it from there," said Jacobs. "As far as my prices, they usually depend on the cost of lumber at that moment and, of course, the design and intricacy of the piece."

In the past, Jacobs has created items such as breadboxes, headboards, welcome signs, coffee tables and much more. However, right now he stated he is really enjoying making concealment furniture. According to Jacobs, this is furniture that has magnetic locks that hide secret compartments and gun owners really love them right now.

"My concealment flags, which are a top seller, are built from individual cuts of wood," said Jacobs. "Every strip is cut and clamped together, it's not a one-piece build. There are around 30 different pieces to my 44×19 flags, including concealment hinges, 4 inches to 10 inches gas struts, Kaizen foam and a RFID lock system.

"It's hard to give an exact time on completion even though I try to get orders out as quick as I can," continued Jacobs, "but I'm a family man first and still work a full-time job and I will never sacrifice quality to make something quick. I love building farm tables, headboards, flags, coffee tables, pretty much anything anyone sends me I try to bring it to life."

"My business Facebook is Wood51," said Jacobs. "I can also be reached through my email, [email protected]"

Jacobs will also be making a pink line flag for an online auction for the Live Like Madison organization.

"For more information on the auction message the organization on their Facebook page," said Jacobs. "I'm super excited to build this piece for such an amazing cause, please check this out and support it."
