A woman who shares pictures of herself doing naked yoga on Instagram has shared some of the benefits of exercising naked.

The posts went viral after one person shared the snaps on Twitter with the caption “people out here butt-chugging sunlight” which sparked debate over whether exercising naked really is any more effective.

The self-proclaimed healer known as Metaphysical Meagan, defended her decision on Instagram, though, sharing plenty of reasons why naked yoga is great for you.

One part of her yoga routine caught the attention of the masses; a practice called “perineum sunning” which refers to manoeuvring your body to enable to sun to hit the area between the anus and the scrotum or vulva.

According to Meagan, there are plenty of benefits to the practice, who claims she no longer needs coffee to gain energy and credits all of her energy throughout the day to perineum sunning.

The woman claims that the Taoist practice strengthens the organs, increases creativity, promotes deeper sleep, grounds and connects you to the earth and regulates hormone function amongst a host of other benefits.

It’s also supposed to have the same sun benefits as spending a whole day in the sun wearing clothes.

Although there’s no scientific backing around the art of perineum sunning, Meagan is not the first person to reap its benefits.

Big Little Lies Actress, Shailene Woodley, believes in the power of this ritual to give yourself a boost of vitamin D, especially during the winter months.

In an interview with Into The Gloss she said: “If you’re feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine.”

Meagan tells her followers: “Sunscreen is not required & all you really need is 30 seconds of sun exposure.”

Not everybody is convinced by the practice, though, with some people worrying about how it could heighten your chances of skin cancer.

“Literally the first thing my high school bio teacher ever did was give us a scared straight story about tanning beds that involved skin cancer on the taint.” A woman commented.

Another joked: “Just wait till Gwyneth Paltrow gets onto this idea.”
