The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a woman dead Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. at the Providence Pointe apartment complex, off Lake Bradford Road, according to spokesperson Heather Merritt.
The woman was rushed to the hospital where she died soon after her arrival.
Merritt said the shooting was not a drive-by or a domestic dispute, but she could not provide any more detail on the shooting as the investigation headed by TPD's Violent Crimes Unit is in its early stages.
"We are working to identify suspects," she said. "No one is in custody."
Investigators ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to call TPD at (850) 891-4200. They can also use the anonymous Crime Stoppers service at (850) 574-TIPS.
There have been at least 11 shootings since Jan. 1, resulting in at least eight injuries and four deaths, according to an analysis of gun violence by the Tallahassee Democrat.
