Woman fatally shot in St. Paul's North End; police arrest 35-year-old man

Jan. 22—Police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found shot outside a home in St. Paul's North End early Saturday.

Someone called 911 just after midnight and reported hearing an argument and then at least one gunshot in the 40 block of Lyton Place. The woman, who was in her early 30s, was lying on the sidewalk, according to police.

Officers and St. Paul fire department paramedics provided medical aid to the woman, and medics pronounced her dead soon after they arrived.

There were two men at the house when officers arrived, according to police. Homicide investigators questioned them and arrested one, Mark Antonio Bell Jr., 35, of St. Paul, on suspicion of homicide.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances of the shooting, which they said they do not believe was random. They're asking anyone with information to call them at 651-266-5650.

The police department plans to release the name of the woman who was killed after the Ramsey County medical examiner's office confirms her identity.

Her homicide was the fourth of the year in St. Paul.
