Woman in China cuts up shop's 32 wedding dresses worth $11,000 after not getting her deposit back

A woman in Chongqing City recently went viral after she was filmed ruining 32 wedding dresses with a pair of scissors to get back at a bridal shop that refused to return her wedding package down payment from last November.

The incident happened at a bridal shop in Chongqing's Jiangjin district on Jan. 9 when the woman, identified as Jiang, was filmed cutting expensive gowns in the store, Newsweek reported.

Jiang allegedly went to the store in April 2021 to book its wedding package worth 8,000 yuan (approximately $1,260) for her wedding day on Oct. 5, 2021, according to Sohu via What’s on Weibo.

She reportedly returned to the store in August of last year to postpone her wedding, and in November, she told the store to cancel her package and return her deposit of 3,500 yuan (approximately $550). However, the store refused to return her money and instead suggested arranging her child's 100th-day celebration, which she initially agreed to.

Jiang went back to the store on Jan. 9 and started cutting several wedding dresses. She reportedly destroyed 32 gowns worth 70,000 yuan (approximately $11,000).

Authorities were called onto the scene to examine the damages, as seen in a video by Chongqing Broadcasting Group, according to Business Insider South Africa. Jiang was taken into custody following the incident.

Although Jiang’s husband allegedly told the store that he would cover 60,000 yuan (approximately $9,420) in damages, reports claim he has yet to make any payments.
