Winter 2022: Some city of Corpus Christi facilities closed; trash pickup schedule

All of Corpus Christi's nonessential offices will be closed the week between Christmas and New Year's, with most closing Monday, Dec. 26, and reopening Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Public safety services including police, fire and EMS will not be affected. Other city departments including water, wastewater, solid waste services and the airport will operate without interruption. The gas and public works departments will have staff on call to respond if needed.

The City Hall, public libraries, senior centers, Municipal Court and the health district will be closed. H-E-B locations will accept utility bill payments, or customers can pay online through the city's website.

The Home Bound meal delivery program will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, and Wednesday, Dec. 28, through Monday, Jan. 2. On Tuesday, Dec. 27, seniors received a five-day supply of shelf-stable meals to sustain them through the week, according to the city.

City staff will continue to conduct welfare checks during the winter closure period.

The Senior Companion Program, a volunteer program that provides in-home respite care for chronic or terminally ill seniors, will continue to be available during the city's winter closure period. People can call the Senior Companion office at 361-826-3154 for more information.

Schedule for other city departments

  • City Call Center:

    • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 30

    • Closed Monday, Jan. 2

  • Public Health District

    • The vaccination clinic at La Palmera mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, to Friday, Dec. 30.

    • The vaccination clinic at La Palmera mall will be closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It will reopen Monday, Jan. 2.

  • Solid Waste Services

    • Garbage collection, recycling collection and heavy brush and bulky collection will remain on a regular schedule.

    • The J.C. Elliott Transfer Station and Cefe Valenzuela Landfill will be closed New Year's Day. They will be open during regular hours on New Year's Eve.

  • Animal Care Services

    • 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 to New Year's Eve

    • Closed New Year's Day and Monday, Jan. 2

    • Adoptions will take place between 1 and 4:30 p.m.

  • Public libraries

    • All libraries will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Eve.

    • All libraries will be closed from Monday, Dec. 26, and reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3.

  • Parks and Recreation

    • The Lozano Golf Center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year's Day and the Oso Golf Course 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year's Day.

    • The Al Kruse Tennis Center will be open from 9 a.m. to noon New Year's Eve. It will be closed New Year's Day. The H-E-B Tennis Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. New Year's Eve. It will be closed New Year's Day.

    • The Collier Pool will be closed Christmas to Monday, Jan. 2.

    • The Natatorium will be closed Christmas to Monday, Jan. 2.

    • The Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center's walking trails and playground will be open daily. The Learning Center will be closed Christmas Eve to Monday, Jan. 2.

    • The Corpus Christi Gym and Ben Garza Gym will be closed Christmas Eve to Monday, Jan. 2.

    • The After Hour Kid Power Program for Corpus Christi ISD will be closed until Friday, Jan. 6. The Vacation Station Camp for CCISD will be open Tuesday, Dec. 27, to Friday, Dec. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 3, to Friday, Jan. 6.

    • The After Hour Kid Power Program for Calallen ISD will be closed until Monday, Jan. 2. The Vacation Station Camp for Calallen ISD will be open Tuesday, Dec. 27, to Friday, Dec. 30.

    • Recreation centers and senior centers will be closed from Monday, Dec. 26, to Monday, Jan. 2.

Corpus Christi's city auditor, city manager's office, city secretary's office, court administration, development services, engineering services, health district, human resources, legal, management and budget, mayor's office, planning and strategic planning and innovation departments will be closed from Monday, Dec. 26, to Tuesday, Jan. 3.
