Winning £1m lottery ticket goes unclaimed in Oxfordshire

A £1m National Lottery prize will go towards good causes after the owner of the winning ticket failed to come forward.

The ticket, from the Euromillions draw on 29 January, was bought in West Oxfordshire and now the prize money will help National Lottery-funded projects.

Andy Carter, from the National Lottery, said someone "has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money".

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it's a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner - the nation," he added.

Last month, a lucky British ticket holder won the £123m Euromillions jackpot, potentially landing them on the Sunday Times Rich List.

If that winner was a single person, their riches can now be compared to Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James (£127m), Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page (125m) and Earl Spencer, brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales (£125m).

Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in North Ayrshire, Scotland, who won £161m in 2011 are the country’s current record holders for largest national lottery win.
