Batavia, Illinois-based grocery store chain Aldi is celebrating the new year with a new store in Windsor Heights.

The store at 7100 University Ave. sits across from an existing Hy-Vee and is now open with a grand opening on Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m.

“We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in Windsor Heights and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping,” Aldi Faribault regional vice president Matt Lilla said in a news release.

The first 100 customers get a free eco bag and a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program while shoppers are also encouraged to enter a contest to win a $500 Aldi gift card during opening weekend from Jan. 5-8.
