Wilson's Matt Stitzel, Exeter's Ty Yonas, named Berks lacrosse co-Players of the Year

May 16—BCIAA champ Wilson had five players named to the All-Berks team, including faceoff specialist Matt Stitzel, who shared Player of the Year honors with Exeter's Ty Yonas.

Bill Waldron was named Coach of the Year after Wilson won its ninth straight league title Thursday, beating Gov. Mifflin 11-2.

Joining Stitzel on the All-Berks squad are teammates Corey Powers, Ryan Strobel, Troy Corson and Brayden Skipper.

Exeter had three picks, including senior midfielder Gio Nowotarski and junior defenseman Ty Yocum.

Berks runner-up Gov. Mifflin had two picks: senior defender Josh Klahr and junior midfielder Trey Rock.

Berks Catholic, Conrad Weiser, and Twin Valley each one selection on the 13-player team, which was selected in a vote of league coaches. Senior attack Connor Gundersen represents the Saints. Senior defenseman Erik Moyer is the Scouts' selection. Junior long-stick midfielder Dominic Caruso represents the Raiders.

Stitzel, a junior, has been one of the key's to Wilson's high-powered offense because of his dominance in the faceoff circle.

Yonas, a sophomore attack in his first varsity season, is the league's leading scorer with 78 points; his 36 assists are also tops in the league.

Powers, a senior attack, is the only player on the team who also earned all-division honors two seasons ago. None of the 2019 All-Berks picks returned this season. There was no season in 2020.

Powers is second in the league with 33 goals and tied for second in scoring with 75 points.

Strobel, a senior attack and first-year starter, is second in the league with 45 goals and tied for second with 75 points.

Corson is a senior short-stick defensive midfielder and keyed the league's best defensive unit, which has allowed just 65 goals in 20 games and has allowed more than seven goals just once.

Skipper is a junior goalkeeper who, like Corson, earned honorable mention status on the 2019 team.
