Wilson to take over ND baseball

Sep. 24—ELNORA — The North Daviess High School baseball program will have a new man in the dugout in a spring. The Cougars have hired to Joe Wilson to take over for long-time former baseball coach Steve McNabb, who left over the summer.

Wilson is currently a coach and teacher at North Daviess, and former four-year player at Springs Valley and a USI graduate.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I don't have a lot experience coaching at this level, but baseball has always been special and a big part of my life," said Wilson.

Wilson is still putting his staff together, but said that veteran assistant Ashley Shurtz will be part of the staff again, along with Darren Bauer.

"We have a lot of really talented freshmen, along with veterans who have played on some very good teams," he added. "I'm just glad really the administration was willing to take a chance on me and I'm looking forward to 'picking peoples brains' in the area to help get better."

Athletic Director Brent Dalrymple said that they were very impressed with Wilson's passion for the game during the interview.

"We had a two-hour interview and we were really impressed with his love of the game and passion. He has been a teacher and a coach here and has done a great job, along with having some great support around him," said AD Dalrymple.
