Wilson golfer Kayla Maletto to miss rest of season with injury

Sep. 23—Wilson sophomore Kayla Maletto, the defending BCIAA girls golf champion, has suffered a hand injury and will miss the rest of the high school season, her father, Brian, said Wednesday.

Brian Maletto said his daughter injured her left hand during a tournament two weeks ago at the Manor Golf Course.

"She's bummed," Brian Maletto said. "She's disappointed."

It's been diagnosed as a deep bone bruise. She has been told by an orthopedic doctor to rest for about two months and not to swing a club.

The injury prevents her from having a chance to win the BCIAA title four times and tie the record set by former Wilson golfer Julie Pelchar Cohen, who won consecutive championships from 1989-92.

Last year, Maletto won the BCIAA championship by 16 strokes with an even-par 70 at Willow Hollow Golf Course. She finished third in the District 3 Class 3A tournament and 12th in the PIAA Class 3A tournament.

She also helped Wilson win the Berks crown and its first District 3 title.
