'Wild 'n Out's' Timothy DeLaGhetto reveals the man behind the freestyles

Even when Tim Chantarangsu — known professionally as Timothy DeLaGhetto — was growing up, he knew he was going to be entertaining people somehow. When he joined YouTube in 2006, he was one of the first people to start vlogging, and was able to make a name for himself very early on.

"I was like, 'Oh, I've never seen a website where anybody can upload any footage,'" DeLaGhetto told In The Know. "And since there weren't a lot of people uploading back then, I started to hit, like, these 'Most Viewed' lists, you know, and I thought, 'Oh, this might be a good way to maybe get my face out there.'"

13 years later, he has more than 4 million YouTube subscribers, 1.5 million Instagram followers and has gained even more notoriety after starring on MTV's "Wild 'n Out" for eight seasons.

"Wild 'n Out" is a part comedy, part hip-hop hybrid show where contestants — usually rappers and comedians — play a series of improvisational games and participate in challenges.

"The show was always a good time," DeLaGhetto said. "It's always fun."

Since leaving the show in 2018, DeLaGhetto continues to upload on YouTube and started a podcast, No Chaser with Timothy DeLaGhetto. The focus of both — especially the podcast — revolve around DeLaGhetto giving out dating and relationship advice to his fans.

"I feel like a lot of these kids who watch me are like, 'Uncle Tim DeLaGhetto raised me.' I used to do a lot of sex and relationship advice for the high school kids — so they'd write it in and ask me for advice, and especially for being like, an Asian-American, I felt like a lot of these young, shy, awkward Asian kids didn't really have anybody they could talk to about that stuff. I was giving them advice they couldn't get from their family," he told In The Know.

DeLaGhetto has accomplished a lot since he started on YouTube over a decade ago. But he's still not done creating and exploring new spaces. Even though 2019 was a highlight year for him, there's still much more he plans to take on.

"YouTube has opened up so many doors," DeLaGhetto said. "I really want to just take it next-level in terms of my own content and brand and what I'm doing. I've been talking about, like, writing a movie, but I'd love to be, you know, the starring face of a movie, and just trying to elevate on every level."
