Where should you draft Lamar Jackson in 2020?

What did Lamar Jackson do in 2019? Well, how much time ya got?

Let’s keep it simple: He led the league in passing touchdowns. He led the league in yards per rushing attempt. He threw for over 3000 yards and rushed for over 1200. He was far and away fantasy’s QB1 after an August ADP of 99. If you had Lamar Jackson on your fantasy team, you probably made the playoffs.

The question now is, how high should you draft Lamar Jackson in 2020?

Andy Behrens and Tank Williams both recognize that Jackson is a special kind of talent who will probably end up bucking the trend of waiting on quarterbacks in fantasy drafts. I mean, his rushing production alone would slot him in at RB14 on the season!

And it’s because of that unreal rushing production that talk of Jackson being worthy of the No. 1 overall draft pick has emerged, but Andy isn’t going for it. He reminds us that never in the history of fantasy football has it worked out to draft a quarterback No. 1 overall.

Instead, he thinks managers should be looking to draft the next Lamar Jackson — a later-round quarterback who ends up lighting the league on fire.

Tank says that Jackson’s incredibly safe floor — he averaged a little over 80 rushing yards per game in the regular season — is why many managers could draft him in the first round. Yet, both he and Andy agree that while they’d draft Lamar in the second-to-third round, his performance in 2019 paired with his safe floor will undoubtedly have him taken extremely early in 2020 drafts.
