Where and when to expect road closures this weekend for Preakness 2022 festivities

The 147th Preakness Stakes will draw thousands to Baltimore this weekend, and that means road closures around Pimlico Race Course will abound.

Even with an extraordinarily hot race weekend in the forecast and with the drama lessened somewhat by the withdrawal of surprise Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike, throngs are expected in Park Heights.

Events kick off Friday with the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes and Preakness Live, which will feature performances by Megan Thee Stallion and Ms. Lauryn Hill. Saturday will bring InfieldFest, complete with sets from Marshmello and The Chainsmokers, and more than a dozen races, including the middle jewel in the Triple Crown, set to begin around 7 p.m.

According to Baltimore’s Department of Transportation, visiting motorists should park in commercial lots rather than in surrounding neighborhoods.

“All posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed,” reads a Thursday evening news release from the department.

Any vehicles towed during the event will be taken to Cylburn Avenue, just south of Northern Parkway. Drivers in Northwest Baltimore might experience delays and should be on the lookout for pedestrians, reads the news release.
