In less than two weeks, everyone above the age of 16 will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in North Carolina — though vaccine appointments may be limited for a few weeks, county officials say.

But Mecklenburg and local hospital systems say they expect to see an increase in vaccine supply in coming weeks.

The county hit a milestone in vaccine administration last week, with more than 100,000 Mecklenburg residents now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

North Carolina is currently offering vaccines to health care workers, residents and staff at long-term care facilities, anyone age 65 and up, front-line essential workers, people with chronic health conditions and people living in some congregate living settings like prisons and shelters.

On March 31, the second half of Group 4 will become eligible for vaccines, including all essential workers not yet immunized, including those who work in the chemical, commercial facilities, communications, construction, real estate, energy, financial services and public infrastructure sectors.

And everyone above the age of 16 will be eligible to get vaccinated by April 7.

Residents not yet eligible for the shot can still pre-register to be notified of a vaccine appointment when the next priority group is being scheduled.
